Cottage Needlecrafts is a small ethically minded company created as the result of a long standing love of designing & stitching beautiful works of art in counted cross-stitch. Joy, a primary school teacher in Staffordshire (now thankfully retired!), first took up cross stitch as a form of relaxation after completing a Masters Degree. When faced with the problem of not being able to find a kit that was exactly what was needed for a leaving present for the school cook, Joy decided to have a go at designing her own pattern and her first design the ‘Pastry Cook’ came into being. Encouraged by the success and sense of achievement she extended the range and began working on commissions. The ‘Children’s Alphabet’ was started after requests for christening presents and now forms the basis of our design service. Joy moved from Staffordshire to Cornwall in 2001 and a chance meeting with Linda, a self employed Accountant, early in 2004 gave Joy the business expertise needed to expand Cottage Needlecrafts into the 21 st Century. Linda, a single mother of three teenagers, having moved to Cornwall from Cheshire in early 2002 was happy to take on the challenge of starting a new business and so Cottage Needlecrafts was born. Linda has developed the technical side of transferring Joys hand drawn graphs on to the computer. Despite having no previous knowledge of Cross-stitching she is now having lessons from Joy and is gradually becoming addicted like the rest of us! Living in a beautiful part of the world over looking St Michaels Mount we are both committed to the landscape and run the business as eco-friendly as possible. We chose to use natural cotton calico for our packaging rather than plastic bags and re-cycled paper wherever possible. We are proud of our designs and presentation which we feel results in a quality product, we hope you think so too and enjoy creating your own family heirloom. We would love to hear from you, please send us an e-mail with any comments or suggestions that you may have. Many Thanks Joy & Linda We would like to share our motto with you; this has kept us going through the bleak moments! Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it. |
